The problem. I encountered the problem when I was trying to save an image file from the Internet. I was looking for a good image file to match my blog post. I found one using Google Search, selected it, right clicked and pressed Save Image As… The Save As window appeared and I entered a file name. When I pressed the Save button, an alert prompt popped out with a message “there are no more files”. I was trying to save the file in my Documents folder (I’m using Win7 by the way). I tried to save the file again but this time I selected the Desktop as the destination folder. I did the same set of drills and when I pressed the Save button, an alert prompt popped out again and this time, it says “file name not valid”.

Cannot “Save As” files. At first I thought the problem only occurs when saving image files from the web to my local disk. But then when I tried to save a new text document, the same problem appears. It started to bug me so I explored the net for answers to my problem.

I landed on a forum that discusses the same problem that I encountered. One of the members said this was caused by a third party file encryption software called Folder Lock.

Main cause of the problem. Upon reading about Folder Lock in the forums, a huge and bright light bulb popped on top of my head. I recalled installing a trial version of the said security application probably a week ago. I uninstalled it right away however. So why is the problem still occurring? I already uninstalled Folder Lock. Heck should I use a registry cleaner to remove all traces of the application? Honestly, I was tempted to do that. I was even thinking of using System Restore.

Uninstalling Folder Lock. Good thing I made the right move. I reinstalled the Folder Lock software, navigated through the Start Menu > Folder Lock and clicked on the Uninstall option. An alert message appeared telling me that I should uninstall Folder Lock via the Options menu of the program itself. I remembered uninstalling Folder Lock through the Control Panel > Programs and Features.

The solution. I went over to the Folder Lock application and clicked on the Options menu. An alert popped out again saying that I should first enter a password in order to access the Options menu. So what I did was I created a new Locker and entered a security password. Then I was able to access the Options menu. I clicked on Uninstall and boom! Goodbye Folder Lock.

Aftermath. I restarted my computer and when I tried to save a new text file, the problem is gone. Case closed!
