Recent statistics from Broadband Forum show that at the end of 2010, there were approximately 20.72 million IPTV, Internet Protocol television, and subscribers in Europe, which represents about 46% of all IPTV subscribers worldwide.
As broadband gets faster and technology progresses, IPTV is starting to transform the way society views content and interacts with television. Despite numbers climbing rapidly, will cloud computing hold the key to future success for IPTV?

For the last few years, technical circles have been buzzing about Cloud Computing, or “The Cloud.” It promises to provide resources to users “on demand,” without the requirement of understanding where the information is actually coming from. The Cloud is meant to treat information as a utility, like electricity, which can just be had when ever you want by simply “plugging in.”

TV when you want it
The nature of Cloud Computing is perfect for IPTV, and a synergy has already formed between the two. In this highly technological age, people don’t want to be limited by schedules or the clock for their content. Modern life has given the younger generation a clear case of, “I want it, and I want it now.” Now, viewers can easily log on to any number of portable devices to catch up on any content they have missed, at any time that is convenient for them; but ‘The Cloud’ is about to revolutionize the way we access content again.

With the synergy of IPTV and Cloud Computing, we are stepping further into an age where we have access to our favorite content at our very fingertips; anywhere, anytime. Imagine having an unlimited video library with the sole purpose to provide you with all the content you love, “on demand.”

Unlimited possibilities
You would be the master of your own schedule, and the timing of TV listings would never be an inconvenience again. “The Cloud” could provide resources for IPTV apps at any point when a user wanted it, and IPTV applications could also be programmed to keep track of user’s content habits and preferences, and even use those to suggest content based on what you have already watched. This is only a small fraction of the possibilities of IPTV combined with, “The Cloud.”

All over the world numbers are rapidly climbing in the purchase of portable devices that are capable of receiving a form of IPTV: be it the iPhone, iPad, the latest Smartphones from Blackberry, HTC, or even the latest high definition televisions from LG or Samsung. Between cloud computing and IPTV we are turning toward a huge behavioral shift in the way we access and interact with content.

Potentially, one could log in to their IPTV service provider, start watching the latest episode of their favorite show on their Smartphone, and pick up where they left off seamlessly at home on their HDTV. Basically, there wouldn’t be anymore, “nothing on TV.”

There is no doubt that IPTV and “the cloud” belong together, but whether this is a beautiful union, or the creation of a monster that will simply make us pay twice over to access the content we can already get on regular TV channels and internet sources is yet to be seen.

The current scenario

The buzz is that Activision is working towards launching Call of Duty – Black Ops 2. The release of Call of Duty – Black Ops was marred by numerous bugs. Post the launch in 2010, the year 2011 saw the release of many patches to fix the bugs in a bid to improve the gaming experience for the gaming aficionados. As the news of a new version trickles in, gaming enthusiasts are pondering over their own wish list.

The prospect

The news of a new launch invites speculation in the form of new features that are likely to find a place in the latest version. Fans lap up the latest versions of their favorite games on the day of the release itself. It is but obvious then that the new version caters to the broad base of fans and at the same time goes a notch or two above their expectations. Treyarch has called for feedback on Black Ops. It is quite likely then that the changes will make the most of the fans’ wish list.
Tweaks we seek

1. Improvement in Graphics

Reason
The graphics engine in use desperately calls for a replacement. The quality of graphics lags behind in comparison to the other games available in the market as of now. Black Ops is not comparable even to Modern Warfare. The problem seems even more pronounced at high resolution. Graphics quality forms the core of a gaming experience. It is high time the changes are implemented.

2. Changes in weaponry

Reason
Secondary weapons in COD Black Ops 2 fall short in terms of alternatives. The pistols are of little use. Most people end up opting for the launchers. The options should be such that there is variety in real terms.

3. Put paid to the problem of overpowered perks

Reason
Perks are an undeniable value addition to the gaming experience but the presence of perks also calls for balance. A perk that offers undue advantage and makes the player unassailable needs to make way for perks that give a boost to the players’ performance while maintaining the balance in the game at the same time. Lightweight, Ghost, Last Stand and Second Chance are some of the perks that often tilt the balance a bit too much in the favor of the player who manages to unlock these.

4. Performance issues

Reason
The game is compatible with most gaming consoles and platforms but problems still crop up from time to time. The new version to be released should be checked for performance on different consoles prior to its release. This would save the publisher from the embarrassment of multiple glitches being reported just as the game is released. Also, it would let the enthusiasts enjoy the game without the frustration of being let down by the hype yet again.

5. Functionality

Reason
Any feature on the game should function well or it should not be there at all. When Call of Duty – Black Ops 2 was released, the multi-player functionality hardly worked on various gaming consoles. Activision would do well to make sure that anything that is there functions just as it is meant to.

The news of the new release has set the ball rolling for speculation. Fans can only wait and hope that it meets their expectations. More than anything else, it is hoped that the new release would not be marred by the problems that plagued the first.

Experience the best of N8 in landscape keyboard by turning on word completion, prediction, and text correction to ‘show suggestion’. Seems easy but is not so especially when it comes to implementing the said. Symbian has some hidden settings especially in Nokia devices and the company need to address this issue for its future products. Although for geeks, this hardly creates a problem but for masses, it really is a big problem.

Coming back to my topic, how would one get the best of N8 in landscape keyboard? Some of you must be thinking that peeping into the keyboard settings may help but this is not the case. Why? Well, because of the hidden setting, as I mentioned in the last paragraph.
Here, I have come up with couple of steps that might help with the N8:

Launch notes and tap to create one.

Move the device into landscape orientation, this helps in accessing the proper settings.

Tap the 3 line key between the forward arrows and return key.

Tap Input options via activate prediction.

Again tap the 3 line key.

Tap Input options via settings.

In here tap to turn on word auto-completion, text correction level to high, and text correction mode to show suggestion.

Result:
Well, the QWERTY keyboard is relatively better by implementing the above-cited steps. It worked well with me; hope it does the same with you.

The following is a guest post written by Kristina Louis.

With the continuing trend for users to demand ever-increasing bandwidth, the Wireless Internet Service Provider, or WISP, is fast becoming the preferred option for many consumers. Wherever someone is and whatever the time of day, the opportunity to maximise upload and download speeds through WISP companies is an attractive proposition for most.

Why WISP?
Today’s internet users are not just large corporations in city-centre buildings who enjoy fast fibre-optic speeds. These days, many rural or suburban users demand high speeds to download or upload large packets of information all day long. Modern internet-service providers require a high-speed solution that can be delivered to every customer quickly and cost effectively across wide geographical areas in order to secure the lion’s share of the market. This is exactly what WISP can do.

What is WISP?
WISP stands for Wireless Internet Service Provider, which is essentially a company providing full web access without a fixed communication line. WISPs can provide web access to both business and residential consumers using radio-based multipoint networks, which, in many cases, are composed of both wired and wireless network infrastructures. The introduction of this type of connection has allowed many large cable operators to extend their services to previously hard-to-reach customers quickly and effectively at a very low cost. This is because most WISPs use equipment that operates in the license-free spectrum to provide low-cost deployment and low-maintenance broadband services to customers who otherwise would not be able to get broadband.

The Advantages of WISP for an ISP
In a nutshell, an ISP employing a WISP strategy will be able to roll out their services at a low cost and with a rapid return on investment. Because WISPs own their share of the infrastructure, there are no recurring costs to be paid to the phone company. The equipment itself is very cheap in comparison to the cost of upgrading wired facilities. It is also not expensive to add a subscriber to the network once a base station has been deployed. The speed of the connection can be better than wired connections in some areas, with providers reporting speeds of around 10mbps in rural locations, compared to 3-4mbps for wired connections.

Another advantage for the ISP is the fact that the software and hardware is so easy to install. With no digging, wiring or drilling to be done, the customer can be online in a few easy steps. As the ISP business grows, so can the network, because additional bandwidth is not limited in the way that it is when buying bulk lines from a telecoms company. However, in order to implement a fair-use policy, ISPs using the WISP system are usually able to monitor, optimise and control their system remotely from any location.

Advantages for the Customer
For the consumer, the package offers everything they need to get online quickly, whenever they want and at a competitive price. The technology ensures that they get better speeds in rural locations than would be achievable from a phone line. The service is also much more reliable and stable than telephone connections, so consumers can depend on their connections when they need them most.

Whatever your customers’ needs are, if you want to supply high-quality internet services in rural or suburban locations, WISP offers everything you require at a low cost and with a quick return on investment.

Just when users hung loose on android-powered tablets from Samsung, the company settled upon picking something even bigger. It might really interest performance seekers that Samsung has recently joined hands with Microsoft to unleash their upcoming Windows 8 tablet. Sounds too great to hear the collaboration, doesn’t it? Well, the quad-core computing device’s sure to set ablaze the stiff tugs-of-wars amongst manufacturers from across the world.

Though the report needs to receive an official word from Samsung, the tablet however has already started making the waves for users by large. Apparently, the device will benefit the most from Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system and revamp the way consumers interact with their entertainment and multimedia world. Designed aesthetically, the super sleek solution was also showcased during Microsoft’s BUILD developer’s conference.

The new Windows 8-powered Samsung tablet will ostensibly integrate an extremely powerful processor for speedy execution of tasks whilst slender framework takes care of portability. Devised for users who seek a unique blend of exceptional performance, stunning looks and great price value, the tablet comes equipped with an interesting slew of advanced features.

Although it might be a bit too early to comment on other specs, the device nonetheless promising enough. You may accredit the possibility of success either to the respective expertise or amazing features, but Samsung’s new tablet seems to be a great bet. If sources are to be believed, the touchscreen model will be integrated with a high end camera for incredible picture and video quality. By taking advantage of which, photography aficionados will be enabled to seize their moments with unprecedented sharpness and high resolution.

The other scenario, however, validates the firm alliance between Samsung and Microsoft. It definitely makes sense for the latter to tap Samsung’s knowledge and expertise – as Samsung has evolved as one of most significant android smartphone and tablet makers. The company, on the contrary, gets to rest upon Microsoft’s platform for its remarkable advancement in operating system, which could be easily noticeable through Windows phone 7.

As far as the new tablet’s progress is concerned, Microsoft has already teased a part of the latest Windows 8 operating system interface. We feel, which, utilizes certainly most of its structure from Windows phone 7 smartphone’s metro user interface. There’s absolute no obscurity that Samsung’s new Windows 8-powered computing device will set forth new benchmarks, considering an advanced amalgamation of superb features and highly awaited OS.

At the same time, it should nowhere be overlooked that the tablet will boast of a new interface which comprises Windows phone-style live tiles. The standard ‘Start’ menu is also anticipated to be replaced in a significant manner. Furthermore, the device will be incorporated with backwards compatibility with all Windows 7-compatible software and hardware. That sounds whole of a new experience.

Displayed during Microsoft’s BUILD developer’s conference, the new Samsung tablet has more specs details to be divulged. Pretty much expected though, the pricing as well as availability details are still kept well under the wraps. That leaves us with nothing else but – hanging onto our hats for some more time. Fingers Crossed!

To gain access to a remote computer, you need the software called remote access software or more popularly known as remote desktop software. In particular, this software lets you view the remote desktop, send keystrokes and you’ll be in full control of the mouse cursor of the remote computer. In addition, there are different remote desktop software programs which you can use to send files to the remote computer and vice versa, chat with a user who’s working at the remote PC and help you perform other operations as well. The client-model server is normally used in the remote desktop software wherein the Viewer takes the part of the client and the Server or the Host takes the server part. In other remote desktop software programs, they use different names for the client and the server. And to further simplify the installation process, some developers merge the client and the server in a single installer file. One great remote desktop software program that you can find in the market today is the Remote Utilities. You use it for system administration and remote helpdesk. This software is perfectly reliable if you want working speed and security. Remote Utilities is good to use for internet connections and you can bypass firewall and proxy using it but this software excels the most in the local network administration.

Normally in a household where there’s a desktop PC, several laptops, and a home server, they are all connected to a local network with the Internet access through the use of a router. Now if you want to have easy remote access to your home network even if you are in another part of the world, all you need to do is to install the host component of remote desktop software on every PC. It’s a secure channel where you can connect to every PC of your family members. Viewing, editing documents and listening to music among others can now be accomplished more easily.

In the corporate network, you need to perform a lot of administrative tasks. Using the remote control software, it makes it easy to perform remote administration. You don’t have to go from one place to another just to maintain unattended PC’s thus saving you a lot of time and energy. Remote customer support is another advantage of using remote desktop software. You can help co-workers or customers by gaining access to their computers through the Internet. There’s no need for them to install the host component because they just have to run the executable file so that incoming connection from you will be allowed. You can download the executable file from the vendor’s website.

It’s a simple process to connect to a remote computer. First, you need to determine the IP address and the password to access the host component of the remote desktop software. Enter the IP address and the password then choose a connection mode and you are ready to connect. For a successful connection to the Internet, you will need the public IP address of the remote computer which is no longer common because most PC’s and networks today can be found behind a router or firewall so they no longer have public IP address. You need to consider two things if you want to make sure that your remote access is secured. First, see to it that the host is well protected from authorized access and secondly, make sure that the data transmitted to the network between the host and the client is also secured.

In conclusion, the best remote desktop software depends on the features that you need. You should also take into consideration whether you are going to use it in a local network or for Internet connection.

Electronic pickpocketing, identity theft and payment fraud are very rampant especially in today’s modern technology. Good thing, the same modern technology allows us to find ways on how to prevent electronic pickpocketing, identity theft, payment fraud and many other crimes that can be committed using high technology. Using the Identity Stronghold RFID blocking products, you know you are protected because you can use them to block the personal information that are sent through radio waves when you use your credit cards, passports or any other ID cards.

Most, if not all credit cards now have RFID chip embedded into them. And in 2 to 3 years’ time, companies that issue credit cards will have these latest contactless smartcards in replacement for the magnetic stripe credit and debit cards. When credit cards with RFID chips are in use, they emit information thru radio waves from your credit cards such as account number, expiration date and other personal information. One of the many purposes of the RFID chip is to make things a lot easier. When shopping, vendors can just scan your card quickly to process the sales transaction fast and easy. They are also very convenient to use to make border crossing faster as the authorities can just scan passports from a distance. However, there are people who are taking advantage of this technology to commit electronic pickpocketing, identity theft, payment fraud and many other crimes by reading the information from your credit cards even before you have taken them out of your wallet.

The Identity Stronghold RFID blocking products include Credit Card RFID Blocking Sleeves, Passport RFID Blocking Products, Secure Sleeves, Secure Wallets, Secure Badge holders, Lanyards & Reels, Cell Phone Shielded Bags and All Leather Products.

The best RFID shielding in the industry can be found in all these products so you need not worry about how to prevent electronic pickpocketing, payment fraud, identity theft and any other related crimes. The soft leather wallets are genuine and all pockets are guaranteed to be shielded individually so that your personal information in each and every card is protected in every pocket.

One of Android’s biggest advantages over the competition is its large selection of apps. The Android Market is famously developer friendly, foregoing a drawn out approval process like Apple’s Appstore with the goal of cultivating a wider and more diverse landscape of applications. Even so, certain apps just aren’t available through the Android Market. Fortunately, unlike iPhone, Android is an open platform, allowing users to install apps through 3rd parties without additional customization or risk of breaking warranty. Here’s a quick beginners guide to non-market apps.

What Kind of Apps Are Not on the Market?

There are a variety of reasons why an app might not make it to the official market. Many developers test their brand new apps on tech-savvy Android forum users before going big time in the market. Some apps get pulled off of the market because they conflict with the Android Market’s terms and conditions (this doesn’t mean they are illegal). Some developers prefer not to deal with the Market and sell their app directly through alternative app stores or their own websites. Here’s just a short list of cool and useful apps that you won’t find in the market:

Swype: This app provides an alternate way of using your phone’s keyboard. Instead of tapping with your fingers, Swype lets you slide your fingers from key to key, using auto-completion technology to guess what word you want. Fans of Swype claim that this method allows for much faster typing and texting. Although Swype comes prepackaged on many phones, those that don’t have it will have to venture beyond the market to find it.

Rjdj: This is a cool one. Rjdj is an innovative music app that uses your phone’s microphone to craft “sonic experiences” that react to the natural noises and sounds around you. Walk through a quiet park and the soundscape will be mellow. Walk through a crowded street and the generated sounds will become more chaotic and complex. The effect of these interactive soundscapes is supposed to be meditative.

Bacon Reader: This is a mobile version of the popular social book marking site reddit.com, aka “the front page of the Internet.” It hasn’t made it to the Android Market because it’s technically still in the testing phase. It might never make it there due to stalls in its funding and development. Despite the setbacks, Bacon Reader has established a dedicated following among active Reddit users who appreciate its clean, user-friendly interface.

SpoofApp: This somewhat controversial app single-handedly revolutionized prank calling in the mobile era. SpoofApp allows you to disguise your number when it appears on someone else’s caller ID, change the tone of your voice, and record the call, ingredients which lead to maximum prank potential. This app was pulled from the Android Market for undisclosed reasons, but remains perfectly legal and can be downloaded directly from SpoofApp’s website.

How Do I Install an App Without the Android Market?

Installing non-market apps takes a very slight amount of technical know-how. Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to get you through.

First, find the applications setting menu on your phone. You should see a tab that allows you to enable unknown sources. Your phone will now allow you to install non-market apps.

Next, you’ll need to briefly head to the Android Market and install an app installer app (a little redundant, I know). Some good ones are Easy Installer and AppInstaller. These apps will assist you in installing .apk files (the type of file Android Apps are housed in).Download your chosen app’s .apk file onto your computer and then transfer it onto your Android’s memory card.

Download your chosen app’s .apk file onto your computer and then transfer it onto your Android’s memory card.

Insert your memory card back into your phone and then open up your installation app. The .apk file should be easily identifiable on a menu. Just highlight it and hit “install” and it should start loading like any other app.

If you’re a true app fanatic, and want to get the most out of your Android, it’s worth it to look into non-market apps. You just might find something cool. An added bonus from discovering an amazing non-Market app is watching your friends go crazy trying to find how to download it. Enjoy!
