When it was first introduced in 2008, the HP Elitebook line comprises of the xx30 series. Then they made several changes and added new features and came up with the second generation called the xx40 series. IT Reviews on the other hand find the high screen resolution of the 8540p as its biggest attraction while the keyboard is well made and user-friendly at full touch typing speed. IT Reviews also finds 8540p to be big and heavy so they don’t find it portable enough.

The attractive and robust design including the powerful processor and the good range of features of the 8440p impressed the V3.co.uk. But in their HP EliteBook review, the overall appeal of the laptop was affected because of the poor battery life and its 32-bit Windows. AnandTech on the other hand praised the EliteBook 8740w for its DreamColor 2 LCD but they find the built-to-order machines quite expensive.
